Falls City School Board Seeks to Fill Vacancy
07/09/2013

(KTNC) - The Falls City Board of Education took the first step to fill the vacancy created by the death of longtime board member Kathy Bartek.
District 56 Superintendent Tim Heckenlively told board members Monday night that they have fairly wide discretion as to how they fill the vacancy.  State law does not specify a time frame in which a school board vacancy must be filled, but Board President Scott Hollens said he would like the board to appoint a sixth member as soon as possible.
Anyone interested in serving on the Falls City School Board should contact the District’s Central Office.  Applicants will be asked to provide some background information and explain why they are interested in being a school board member.
An information sheet explaining the responsibilities of a school board member will be available in the Central Office and on the District’s website (
www.fctigers.org).
Kathy Bartek’s term on the school board was to expire in 2017.  Whoever is appointed to fill the vacancy will serve until the next general election, in 2014, and a board member will be elected then to fill the final two years of the term.
The Falls City School Board will hold a special meeting to discuss the vacancy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 22nd.
