(KTNC) - The Falls City Board of Education received a report on activity of the Falls City Public School Foundation last week.
The foundation’s Merle Veigel summarized a few of the things the foundation has been involved with since it was started in 1990, and explained the foundation’s purpose. (play audio :38 “what we’re about.”)
One of the first things the foundation was involved with was a maintenance project that is being done again this summer. (play audio 1:02 “at that time.”)
More recent things the foundation has been involved with, Veigel says include providing 13-thousand dollars in 2007 towards the purchase of stage curtains, lighting, and a sound system for the High School Auditorium. In 2011, the foundation served as a conduit for funds to purchase a new van for ESI 4.
In the last year, the foundation has collected $47,100 in donations for the new weight room, and the Class of 1962 raised $23,400 to pay for new bleachers at Jug Brown Stadium and new I-Pads.
In addition, Veigel says the foundation has provided scholarships totaling $290,000 since 1992. (play audio :48)
Veigel said some of the endowed scholarships have been pared back recently, with lower interest rates.
The Falls City Public Schools Foundation consists of seven directors, including three School Board members and four community members. With donations that have come in this spring, Veigel said the Foundation now has funds and assets in excess of $750,000.
