12/13/2012

(KAIR) -- In an effort to speed up services, the Atchison County Courthouse will soon get a faster internet connection.

Atchison County IT Director Wes Lanter told County Commissioners Wednesday that the internet service upgrade is the first of eight major projects on the table for the Information Technology Department for 2013.

Commissioner Jeff Schuele says the upgrade is expected to begin in the next two weeks.

Lanter also discussed the savings potential in hiring a full-time IT position instead of outsourcing items to Manatron.

He says the county could save up to 238 thousand dollars doing IT in-house instead.

Schuele says the position, which is budgeted for 2013, will be further discussed by Commissioners in future meetings.

Commissioners on Wednesday also closed out the Community Development Block Grant for the new ADA accessible elevator in the courthouse with 164 thousand 500 dollars being the total cost for the County for the project.
