Falls City School Board Approves Budget and Tax Request
09/11/2012

(KTNC) - The Falls City Board of Education approved the 2012-13 Budget and property tax request following public hearings Monday night.  No one from the public attended the hearings.
The budget calls for a slight increase over last year, while an 8.6-percent increase in the district’s property values will result in a decrease in the overall tax levy.  Superintendent Tim Heckenlively summarized the numbers.  (play audio  :42)
The mill levy dropped by approximately three-and-a-half cents to $1.13 per $100 of assessed valuation.  The total district budget is just over $10-million dollars.  Heckenlively said 71-percent of that will go towards student instruction, with 84-percent going to salaries and benefits.
Sixty-seven percent of the district revenues will come from local property tax, with 25-percent coming from state aid.  District 56 is receiving less state aid due to the higher property values.
The board set the tax request for the General Fund at 6-million, 282-thousand-720 dollars. The tax request for the Bond Fund was set at 442-thousand-843 dollars; the tax request for the Special Building Fund was set at 111-thousand-137 dollars; and the tax request for the Qualified Capital Purpose Undertaking Fund was set at 213-thousand-794 dollars.
