Calhoon Presents Sheriff Budget to Commissioners
07/26/2012

(KAIR) -- With the department head budget workshops rapidly coming to a close, Atchison County Sheriff John Calhoon was among this week’s budget presenters.

Calhoon presented a one-point-four-four million dollar budget to county commissioners Wednesday for 2013, a seven to eight percent increase.

County Commissioner Jeff Schuele says there are several line items with proposal increases.

Spider Shell presented the county fair budget proposal for 2013 of 34 thousand dollars, which includes fair premiums and fair maintenance.

Schuele says an increase to those line items may be explored, since some of the fair buildings are 70 to 80 years old.

The Atchison County Historical Society presented their budget of just over 11 thousand dollars as well.

Commissioners also heard from Kathy Butler from the Atchison Community Health Clinic.

Schuele says they have done some wonderful things recently.

Commissioners are planning to wrap up their regular session budget workshops with department heads next week and Schuele says Commissioners may conduct an evening workshop once they start crunching numbers, if necessary.

Commissioners have set a target date to vote on publication of a proposed 2013 budget for August 15th.
