Muscotah Museum Project Ready to Advance

The project to create a museum in Muscotah honoring a former native and major league baseball player has raised enough funds to begin the first phase of the project.

Phase one of Joe Tinker Museum will begin in June of this year.

According to Museum project organizer Jeff Hanson the thousand dollars needed was donated by residents outside of Muscotah after knowledge of the project went nationwide.

Tinker was born in 1880 in Muscotah and began his big league career with the Cubs in 1902 at the age of 21.

He played with them until 1912 and again in 1916, being part of the Cubs back-to-back and latest World Series Championships in 1907 and 08.

He was elected into the Hall of Fame by the veteran’s committee in 1946 before passing away two years later.

Phase one is to make the old water tower look like a baseball, which needs a lot of volunteers and time.

The end goal is to make a memorabilia not only from Tinker, but have a place for the history of the community of Muscotah itself.

There’s still more phases the committee would like to accomplish and more funds that need to be raised.

Phase two has a goal to make the building functional by June of 2013, raising eight thousand dollars.

Phase three is to acquire and display the memorabilia by June of 2014 at a cost of five thousand dollars.

Meetings for the museum project take place every second Thursday at seven at the city building in the city park and are open to everyone.
