(KAIR) -- People from all over Kansas and a few from Arkansas converged to Muscotah this weekend to work on projects to honor one of its natives and a baseball Hall of Famer.
The Joe Tinker Museum, which was once their water tower, now resembles a baseball after crews painted the tower white with red welded laces.
Plans are in place to put another coat on the baseball prior to July 27th, which is the annual Joe Tinker Day that honors the former Chicago Cub.
A lot of welding and construction was done inside the ball but more remains before it becomes the future home of Muscotah and Tinker memorabilia.
The outfield fence and scoreboard for the adjacent “mini” Wrigley Field area is now up and ready for future advertising spaces.
Also, the concession stand in the park down the street was power washed and repainted.
It is now ready for a baseball mural to be painted on its walls before and during Joe Tinker Day.
Tinker, who was born in Muscotah in 1880, was part of the last Cub team to win the World Series in 1908.
