A committee is looking to revitalize Memorial Hall in Atchison to its original form.
Don Huff and other committee members spoke to Atchison County Commissioners this week to discuss several improvements and fundraising efforts, and hopes of an immediate start to the project.
Commissioner Jeff Schuele says there have been draining and water runoff issues outside the county-owned building.
The committee needs just over 53 thousand dollars to fund the project and Commissioners told them they would probably have to wait until 2013 for a share of the expense to be picked up by the county.
However, Schuele says there’s been a successful fundraising effort so far to cover some of the cost, with an incentive to contributors.

So far, the committee has been able to raise just over 20 thousand dollars for the project that was first instituted a few years ago.
The building was constructed in 1922 and was put on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.
Interested individuals are asked to contact the Atchison County Treasurer’s offices at 367-5332 or Huff at 367-5491.
