A committee made up of Atchison County department heads or representatives and a County Commissioner presented their findings on health benefits for county employees.
Atchison County Sheriff John Calhoon recently made a presentation to commissioners and Monday, they elected to hire an insurance consultant, Hays Company.
County Commissioner Jeff Schuele says the committee reported a lot of apprehension to change plans from the current state of Kansas non-state employee plan.
However, they believe the consultant route is best, comparing it to an HR manager, instead of a broker or transactional.
Schuele says the current plan poses problems when budgeting.

Commissioners also held a lengthy executive session with officials involved in the court system about security in the courthouse.
Schuele says they hope to address the situation as the budget cycle moves forward.

Commissioners will have a lighter day on Wednesday, hoping to meet with the insurance consultant tomorrow or no later than next week.
