No Threat for Atchison Violation of Drinking Water Standard
01/27/2012

The city of Atchison has violated a drinking water standard, but it’s not an immediate risk to public concern.

In a memo sent out to customers, the city says there is not a need to use an alternative water supply, however if you have specific health concerns or questions, the city advises to consult a doctor.

The city’s water treatment plant must have a running annual average removal ratio of one for total organic carbon.

In the fourth quarter, it tested at one point one two.

TOC is a natural occurring constituent in river water that is reduced in the treatment process.

As mentioned briefly in a January city commission meeting, loan money has been made available through KDHE to help correct the process.
