A garage incurred heavy damage in a fire Saturday afternoon in Falls City. The Falls City Fire Department reports receiving a call to a garage fire at 1524 Fair Avenue shortly before 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon. The State Fire Marshal investigation determined that the fire started when a wood stove in the 24-by-60 foot building had ignited some nearby cardboard boxes. Officials say the boxes contained electrical equipment. The fire caused significant damage to the main floor of the garage as well as to the rafters. A nearby home, just three feet away from the garage, was not damaged. A total of 20 firefighters from the Falls City Volunteer and Falls City Rural Fire Departments responded to the fire. They had the fire under control within an hour.
