(KLZA)-- The Nemaha Natural Resources District Board continued discussion during their September meeting on the District’s groundwater management rules.
Currently work is focusing on development of a risk map that would be used to help identify various factors affecting water quantity in particular areas. Rules could then be tailored to each area based on it being in a high or low risk area. Work on a risk map for the Elk Creek to Shubert area is anticipated to be done in a couple of months.
The Board also voted during the meeting to increase the minimum score required for approval of new water wells in a portion of eastern Richardson County at 300. Last year the board approved a temporary minimum score of 231 in this area which was to sunset, September 30th.
Since the work on updating the rules to address concerns, the new minimum score was put in place and is to end no later than September 30, 2017.
