(KLZA)-- (Peru, Neb.) – If you want to make a day of events in Peru this coming Saturday, you could easily do so. From running (or watching people run) to watching either baseball or softball or to take in a theatrical performance, you can do it all on April 25 at Peru State.
To start things off on Saturday, the Bobcat cross country team is hosting their first what-hopes-to-be annual "Nebraska's Easiest Mile." For many years, the "Nebraska's Toughest Mile" has been contested by running up the hills of Peru. On Saturday, you can run down the hills in the opposite direction. You can register that morning if you want at 7:45 a.m. with the race beginning at 8:30 a.m.
At 9:30 a.m., the Peru State Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee will be making their choices for the 2015 Hall of Fame Inductees. The inductees will be announced later this summer and will be formally inducted on the weekend of Oct. 16 and 17.
At 1 p.m., there are two choices for activities. You could watch the Bobcat baseball team play its final regular-season games against the visiting Missouri Valley College Vikings at the Centennial Complex Field. In between the games, the Bobcat seniors will be recognized.
Also at 1 p.m., you could watch the Peru State football team during their spring football final scrimmage in the Oak Bowl. Over 80 players have been participating in spring ball and the scrimmage will be the culmination of their efforts this spring.
After the football scrimmage, the Peru State Football Booster Club will be holding a fish fry at the VFW. All are welcome to attend. There will be a charge of $8 for adults and $5 for children under the age of 12.
Besides the athletic activities, if you want to see an excellent theatrical performance, check out Peru Theatre Company's presentation of Unnecessary Farce. The play will be held Thursday through Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m. and then on Sunday with a matinee beginning at 2:00 p.m. There is a $10 general admission with seniors and children under five paying $5.
