(KLZA)-- Governor Dave Heineman today awarded eight Nebraska communities with $1,779,800 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to pursue projects in the public works category. Funding went to Howells, Newman Grove, Peru, Phillips, Plainview, Scribner, South Sioux City and Wakefield.
Peru is receiving $250,000 to make concrete curb and gutter, sidewalk, and storm sewer improvements to Park Avenue, which is the only paved entrance and exit to the City and Peru State College. The city, Peru State College, Peru State College Foundation, and Nemaha County will partner to finance a remaining $224,800 to complete the project.
The Nebraska Department of Economic Development administers the state’s CDBG program. Federal funds are made available to Nebraska from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s CDBG program, which assists with the development of businesses and communities throughout the state.
