(KLZA)-- Pawnee County Commissioners discussed the need for zoning changes because of the NioCorp drilling in Pawnee County. NioCorp has been drilling test holes to help determine if the company wants to develop a large-scale mining operation for Niobium. NioCorp would be responsible for the fees charged to make any zoning changes.
Pawnee City Mayor Deb Klein met with the Board this week requesting funds for the City of Pawnee City recycling program. The City did not request a specific amount but the Mayor indicated they would like some help with the expenses. No action was taken. A decision by Commissioners is expected during the April 14th meeting.
Susie Just and Pam Armknecht with Southeast Nebraska Community Action met with the Board. Commissioners approved a proclamation declaring April 6-10 as Public Transit Week. Posters will be displayed regarding the Pawnee County Transit System. Just will be providing demonstrations in all the communities in Pawnee County showing how the bus and the lift work.
Armknecht discussed the transit budget with Commissioners and asked for a local match of $4,847 from Pawnee County for the 2015-16 Fiscal Year. The request was approved.
Pawnee County Clerk Candi Nicholas met with Commissioners regarding security for the Courthouse and electronic recycling. Three companies submitted bids for panic buttons for all office in the Pawnee County Courthouse. No action was taken by the Board. Again a decision is expected April 14th.
The Board did approved having an electronic recycling event with Data Destruction coming to the Courthouse to recycle electronic equipment. The event will be open to the public. The fee to the County will be $100 for the onsite event.
