(KLZA)-- No serious injuries resulted from a Friday afternoon house fire in Falls City. Firemen responded to a call at 2021 McLean Street, the home of Robert and Allison Sanders.
According to Robert Sanders, his wife was cooking on the stove and left the kitchen to check on one of their young children in anther room. The couples other small child also required attention and the pan in which she was cooking caught on fire. Allison Sanders shut off the stove and pulled the pan off of the stove.
She was able to get her two kids out of the house and make the two adults in the upstairs of the home aware there was a fire. When one of the people upstairs came down, he saw the fire and returned to the upstairs. According to Falls City Volunteer Fire Chief Ken Simpson the fire used the stairway like a chimney and moved up the stairway. The couple upstairs were able to escape the fire by going out an upstairs window.
Allison Sanders father, Tim Campbell arrived on the scene and was able to assist the female coming out of the upstairs window.
The man, identified by Robert Sanders as his brother suffered smoke inhalation and was taken from Community Medical Center in Falls City to a Lincoln hospital for treatment but was released Sunday. Allison Sanders, the two small children and the woman who was on the second floor went to Community Medical Center for observation but were released.
The Fire Chief estimated the fire and smoke damage to the home at $25,000 to $30,000. 13 Falls City Volunteer Firemen and nine Falls City Rural Fire Department firemen responded to the call.
