(KTNC) - The exact cause of a fire that extensively damaged a Falls City home Thursday morning remains undetermined.
According to Fire Chief Ken Simpson, the Fire Marshal’s investigation identified three possible causes, but couldn’t pinpoint exactly what sparked the blaze.
The fire at 923 Fulton Street was reported shortly after 5:00 a.m. Thursday. It took firemen about 45 minutes to bring the fire under control, and there was extensive damage to the house from the flames and smoke.
The Falls City Fire Department was called back to the house shortly before 4:30 Thursday afternoon after an old stuffed chair rekindled. Simpson says firefighters removed the chair from the house and drowned it with water.
Thirteen volunteer firemen were at the house for about an hour Thursday afternoon. Twenty Falls City and Rural Firemen responded to the initial fire Thursday morning.
Simpson says firemen also responded to a smoke alarm at the Richardson County Courthouse at about 6:15 Thursday evening, but there was no fire.
