(KTNC) - Peru State College will honor a prominent Nebraska businessman and philanthropist during Saturday’s commencement ceremony.
Peru State and the Nebraska College System will honor Lee Sapp with an honorary Doctorate of Pedagogy.
Sapp and his brothers started the Sapp Brothers Company in 1960, which included Ford dealerships in Ashland, Blair and Omaha, Sapp Brothers Travel Centers and Petroleum Company and several truck stops.
Sapp will be honored for his contributions to higher education in Nebraska. That includes investments in infrastructure improvements at colleges and universities across Nebraska, including a large contribution to help fund renovation of Peru State’s football stadium.
He has also contributed to facilities in Nebraska communities, including Pawnee City, Filley, and Virginia, and contributed to the Pawnee City Historical Society and Brownville Community Foundation.
Peru State President Dan Hanson notes that Sapp and his late wife, Helene, funded four years of higher education for more than 110 Nebraskans. That was done to honor Sapp’s mother and sisters, who attended Peru State and taught in Nebraska country schools.
Peru State’s commencement ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the Al Wheeler Activity Center.
