(KTNC) -- Meal prices will be going up in the Falls City School District. The school board approved a 10-cent across-the-board increase in breakfast and lunch prices on Monday night.
The increase brings the cost of lunch to $2.10 for pre-school, $2.65 for elementary students, $2.80 for Middle School students, and $2.85 at the High School. Breakfast costs $1.70 for grades K-thru-5 and $1.80 for grades 6-thru-12.
Adult meal prices are $2.20 for breakfast and $3.50 for lunch.
The increased prices reflect increased costs for food and milk, and new guidelines that require meals to include more fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
The increase also will enable the district to remain inline with the Federal Paid Lunch Equity requirements, which allow the district to be reimbursed for free-and-reduced meals. More than half the meals served in the Falls City School District are free and reduced price meals.
In other action Monday night, the School Board accepted the resignations of two teachers – High School Science teacher Tom Weinert, who has been with the district for 29 years, and Middle School Family and Consumer Science teacher Karen Flynn, who has been with the district for 30 years.
Food Service Director Carol Zimmerman has also submitted her letter of resignation after 28 years with the district.
The board approved contracts with new North School Principal Shawn Emerson and with Susan Findlay to be the High School and Middle School Library Media Specialist.
Julie Frederick will move to teach High School Science, having taught those courses previously at Dawson-Verdon and HTRS.
The board also approved the ESU 4 Core Services Resolution and an agreement for ESU 4 Special Education Services for the next year.
