Mound City Council Awards Contract to Build Shop Office
10/17/2013

(KTNC) -  The Mound City Council has approved a contract with Nauman Construction to build an office in the city’s equipment building.
Nauman Construction was the only company to bid on the project, and the council accepted their bid of $31,000.  That bid does not include a shop heater or H-VAC system.  Another company, Johnson Heating and Cooling will submit prices and specifications for those items.
Aldermen approved an ordinance to award the contract to Nauman Construction.
Aldermen also accepted a bid of $1,500 from Savannah Machine to install a submersible transducer control system in the sewer lift station.  The old system will be left in place as a backup.
In other business, Mound City Aldermen approved a one-time exemption to city ordinances requiring connection to the city sewer system.  The exemption is specifically for Farmers Mutual Insurance, for their property at 1411 State Street.  It will allow Farmers Mutual to install a private septic system on the property.
Jeremy Johnson, with Farmers Mutual, requested the exemption for the company’s new facility.  He said they would be willing to pay the monthly service charge, but do not want to connect to the city sewer system due to the cost to bore under the highway and the costs to maintain and repair a lift pump.
Mound City’s fall clean-up day is scheduled for this Sunday, October 20.
