(KTNC) - Southeast Nebraska residents will be able to get rid of hazardous household materials during a series of collections planned early next month.
A coalition of organizations and volunteers is teaming up to provide nine household hazardous waste collections between October 1 and October 4.
The waste collections will be held on Tuesday, October 1 at the Otoe County Shop in Syracuse and Nebraska City; October 2, from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. behind the Auburn City Hall, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Prichard Auditorium parking lot in Falls City, and from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the County Shop in Humboldt; on October 3 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Pawnee County Shop in Pawnee City and from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson County Shop in Tecumseh, and from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Jefferson County Shop in Fairbury; and on Friday, October 4 in Crete.
Items that will be accepted include cleaning products, lawn and garden chemicals, paint, used oil, fluorescent light bulbs, and other hazardous household items. Anti-freeze will also be accepted.
Items that will not be accepted include tires, science lab chemicals, items containing asbestos, wood preservatives, PCBs, explosives, or commercial quantities of items.
People should bring materials to the collection site in disposable containers no larger than five gallons or 50 pounds. The containers will not be returned.
