MoDOT Urges Driver Caution as School Year Begins
(KTNC) - The Missouri Department of Transportation is reminding motorists that back-to-school time means extra precautions can help keep everyone safe.
Spokeswoman Sally Oxenhandler says distracted driving remains the number one cause of crashes in Missouri. (play audio :08 “go safely.”)
Oxenhandler says allowing extra time for the trip to school and work is important since traffic will be more congested at certain times, school zone speed limits will be enforced, and lots of children will be walking and riding their bikes along the road. (play audio :19 “the trip.”)
Oxenhandler also reminds drivers that it is against the law in all 50 states to pass a school bus with its stop sign extended.
