(KTNC) - Mound City Aldermen approved three ordinances during their regular July meeting.
One ordinance adds Walnut Street from Paxton Street to Hill Street to the city’s traffic code, “prohibiting vehicles from using certain streets and alleys.”
The council also approved an amended budget for the fiscal year ending June 30th, 2013, and an ordinance establishing a procedure for municipal officials to disclose conflicts of interest and financial interests.
All three ordinances were approved unanimously.
In other business, aldermen authorized City Attorney Brian Tubbs to draft an ordinance allowing the sale of fireworks within city limits.
That action came after a discussion with Judy Howard and her daughter, Holly. They told the council they would like to construct a new building in town to sell fireworks, but current city ordinances prohibit the sale of fireworks in town.
Judy Howard presented the council with sales tax information from Rock Port, and said Mound City would benefit from the increased sales tax revenues if the city were to allow fireworks sales in town.
The proposed ordinance would allow fireworks to be sold within a permanent structure in city limits – not tents. Howard said they’d probably sell fireworks from May through July and perhaps in December.
Aldermen will consider the ordinance at their August meeting.
Aldermen also approved a new liquor by-the-drink and Sunday sales license for White Rose Restaurant and Gifts.
