(KTNC) - The Johnson-Brock School District is moving forward with a building addition. The school board voted to proceed with the project during a special meeting Monday night.
Superintendent Jeff Koehler says they received the final architect plans for the addition, which the board feels will cover all the needs the board had identified. (play cut :20 “with this project.”)
The addition will include a two thousand square-foot library, a new science room and storage closet, and a second Title Room. Koehler says the addition will free up more needed classroom space, improve traffic flow, and open up the commons area. (play cut :38 “music room.” (2x))
Only about a half dozen district patrons attended Monday’s meeting to look at the final building plans. Koehler says the public appears satisfied with the plans and is comfortable with the board moving forward with the project. He says a couple questions were raised Monday night about whether the district was building big enough to meet all its needs by scaling back the project from the original cost of more than $1.5 million to the estimate now of less than one million dollars. (play cut :30 “move forward.”)
No bond will be required for the Johnson-Brock addition, but Koehler says they’ll use anticipation notes to pay for it. There is no date set when construction will start, though Koehler doesn’t anticipate it will take too long to finalize contracts with the architect and get building specs out for bid.
