Local Disaster Emergency Declared in Nemaha Co.
06/03/2013

( KMZA )--The Nemaha County Commission Monday approved a resolution declaring a state of Local Disaster Emergency for the county due to last week’s severe weather, which brought tornadoes and flooding.

County Road and Bridge Supervisor Dennis Ronnebaum said three bridges were lost due to flooding last Tuesday and another two were heavily damaged.  Ronnebaum estimated the total damage price tag at around $600,000.
Commissioners asked Ronnebaum to begin work on repairs immediately.

County Emergency Management Director Todd Swart said the amount of damage exceeds the amount required to be eligible for FEMA funding.

Swart also told commissioners that the City of Seneca has claimed their 2005 International fire truck as a total loss after it became submerged in flood waters during a successful water rescue last Tuesday.
