(KAIR) -- A 28-year-old man accused of pointing a handgun at a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper following a traffic stop in Jefferson County in late January and then leading authorities on a chase has been found competent to stand trial.
The attorney for Joshua Hance of Kansas City, Missouri requested a competency evaluation last month.
A preliminary hearing is now set for March 26th.
Hance was taken into custody January 28th after a chase that began near Grantville and ended in the Oakland area of Topeka.
Officers later learned that the car Hance was driving was stolen and a handgun was recovered beside the car after the chase.
Hance is charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, criminal possession of a firearm by a felon, interference with law enforcement, theft, reckless driving and driving left of center.
He remains in Jefferson County Jail on 100 thousand dollars bond.
