(KAIR) -- Citizens awaiting new broadband internet service in Effingham will have to wait a little longer.
The Effingham City Council Wednesday received a report from Saint Joseph based Haug Communications informing them that they will not proceed until everything associated with their predecessor, Rainbow Communications, is out of the city.
City Clerk Pat Strine says that includes the remaining Rainbow antenna currently located atop the water tower.
Strine adds that once the new Haug antenna is installed, citizens up to two miles outside city limits will be able to get the signal and use the service.
The council also approved a resolution that would merge Effingham’s Fire Department into Rural Fire District Two.
The two departments already share the same headquarters in Effingham.
The resolution must now pass the County Commission before merger can take place.
The council also hired Debbie Falk to become the Manager at the City Pool for 2013.
