(KTNC) - The deadline has been extended to order conservation trees from the Nemaha Natural Resources District. NRD officials say they have a variety of trees and shrubs still available. Seedlings will be delivered in the spring, but orders are needed in advance.
The deadline to order trees, and to have the NRD plant them, has been extended until January 31. Ground must have been tilled in the fall, and a minimum order of 200 trees is required, to be eligible for the NRD’s planting services in the spring.
Those who will be planting their own trees have until March 1st, or until inventories are depleted, to place an order.
The Nemaha NRD is offering eight varieties of conifers, ten deciduous species, and ten types of shrubs this year.
Orders need to be placed in lots of 25 per species. The cost is 90-cents per seedling, plus a $2.50 handling and packaging charge on the orders except those planted by the NRD. The NRD’s machine tree planting costs one dollar per tree.
To order trees, or request NRD planting services, call the Nemaha NRD office at 402-335-3325, or visit the Nemaha NRD’s website (www.nemahanrd.org) for more information.
