(KTNC) - The D.A.R.E. Program will continue in both the Auburn and Johnson-Brock School Districts.
The Nemaha County Sheriff’s Department says Deputy Sheriff Casey Moyer has completed the training necessary to become a D.A.R.E. Program instructor. He’ll provide D.A.R.E. training in elementary classrooms in both the Auburn and Johnson-Brock School Districts beginning this spring.
The schools have provided D.A.R.E. training for several years, initially through the Nebraska State Patrol and more recently by retired Trooper Wayne Trantham. Due partly to budget constraints, continuation of the program in Nemaha County was in question. The schools worked with Region V, NADAA, and the Sheriff’s Office to provide Deputy Moyer’s training to allow the program to continue.
The D.A.R.E. program is a nationwide curriculum that utilizes law enforcement to build a relationship between law enforcement and young people. It aims to provide youth with tools to make good decisions and become responsible adults.
Deputy Moyer will begin presenting the D.A.R.E. program in both Auburn and Johnson-Brock schools shortly after January 1st.
