( KNZA )-- Fire caused extensive damage to a Sabetha home Tuesday afternoon.
The Sabetha Fire Department was called the home of Corey and Wendy Meyer at 756 North Sixth Street shortly after 3:30 p.m
According to the Sabetha Herald, the fire began after a downed cable wire struck an electrical wire causing the cable wire, lying on dry grass, to spark. The grass fire then spread to the house.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire damage to the second story, but the rest of the home received extensive water and smoke damage.
A Sabetha firefighter was treated at the Sabetha Community Hospital for heat exhaustion and smoke inhalation and released.
The Meyer’s and their two daughters are staying with family members.
