KLZA - Humboldt, Nebraska has a new Mayor. Following the conclusion of the old business Tuesday night, Mayor Jim McKim’s resignation took affect due to health reasons and Council President Mike Riley took the oath of office as Mayor of Humboldt.

One of the biggest items on the plate for the community of Humboldt right now is getting the new water wells on line. Riley said that project is moving along at a pretty good pace. ( play audio :15 seconds )
There are no longer legal challenges to the new Humboldt water well field which is located in Pawnee County.
In other business Tuesday night the Humboldt Council voted to send a letter to Dennis Mitchell of Beatrice terminating their agreement with him. Mitchell was hired by the City to help with abatement of nuisance properties in Humboldt. Council members expressed their disappointment is Mitchell’s efforts and failure to appear at Council meetings when requested to do so.
Permission was granted for the use of the Square Park and City Streets for the Richardson County Fair and Humboldt Fall Festival in September and a resolution for the City to temporarily take ownership of the Highway through town during the fair parades was approved.
Building permits before the Council were approved including one for an addition to the dining room at Colonial Acres Nursing Home. The Humboldt Council also approved paying off the final 10 percent of the money owed to Jim Hills in Falls City for the Auditorium window project in the amount of $7,738.
Council member Keith Carlin said that he would get on the next Humboldt – Table Rock – Steinauer school board agenda to discuss several issues including a storm sewer issue across the street from the school.
