Pawnee County Commissioners met with Deputy County Treasurer Cindy Johnson during Tuesday’s meeting to discuss phone calls commissioners had received from county school superintendents.
The superintendents had contacted commissioners after the schools did not receive their tax disbursement as normal.
Johnson told the board that the disbursements were delayed after County Treasurer Cheryl Dahlgren suffered a heart attack on Easter Sunday. Johnson said the checks were delayed until Dahlgren returned to the office, and they had been mailed to the schools on Monday.
In other business this week, Pawnee County Commissioners approved coverage from Blue Cross Blue Shield for the next fiscal year. The premiums will remain the same as the current year.
Alan Richard presented the R-C-and-D annual report. He said the organization is working on bringing a hazardous waste collection to the area, and discussed the scrap tire grant and weed management that has been done in the county. The R-C-and-D is requesting funding from Pawnee County in the amount of 20-cents per capita, which would total $540.60. That is the same amount as the current year.
Commissioners met as a Board of Equalization to discuss an exemption request from the Pawnee Ball Association.
The tax commissioner and property tax administrator had rejected the exemption the Ball Association had submitted, as it did not meet the standards for an educational exemption. They said the request should have been marked charitable instead of educational. Commissioners approved a motion to amend the exemption for the Pawnee Ball Association to charitable instead of educational.
Commissioners this week also approved a special liquor license for the Pawnee County Ag Society for the County Fair.
