(Peru, Neb.) – A tough second inning proved to be too much for the Peru State College (PSC) Bobcats as they saw their outstanding season come to an end in Paducah, Ky., on Saturday.
The 11th-ranked Lindsay Wilson Blue Raiders from Columbia, Ky., topped the Bobcats 5-0 after scoring four of those runs in the second inning of the game. With the loss, PSC finished its season 37-18. The 37 wins are the second most in Bobcat history, trailing only the 2001-02 team, which won 40.
Lindsay Wilson did fall in the championship game to LSU-Shreveport, the other team in the Paducah Regional to defeat Peru State. LSU-Shreveport advances to the NAIA College World Series.
The Bobcat baseball team was the first of all of the Peru State athletic teams to capture a Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) title as they won the HAAC Post-Season Baseball Tournament.
In addition, they became the first baseball team to advance to the NAIA's National Tournament. Previous teams had advanced into NAIA Regionals and Districts. This group included the 2002, 2000, and one team from the early 90's.
The Bobcats will have to replace 15 seniors off the team, but will return several top performers for the 2012-13 year.
