Several tons of trash and salvageable scrap metal items were collected during Falls City’s community cleanup last month.
Organizers say that 22 tons of refuse were collected during the five-hour event on April 28th. Falls City Sanitation reports that they collected more than 12-tons in two trucks. The scrap metal was collected by Koelzer Salvage of Rulo.
The cleanup event allowed Falls City residents to bring items too large for normal trash removal to the city parking lot near Prichard Auditorium, where it was hauled away free of charge.
In addition to the trash and scrap metal collection, Goodwill Industries says they nearly filled a semi-truck with donated items.
And Sheriff Randy Houser says they had a “very positive” response to the prescription drug take back collection. He estimates they collected approximately 40-pounds of expired or unused prescription medication.
Another community clean up is scheduled for October. It’s expected that will include a collection of computers and office equipment, in addition to what was collected during last weekend’s cleanup.
