Fines Could be Going Up for Barking Dogs in Humboldt

Fines could be going up in Humboldt for owners of barking dogs. The City Council Tuesday night instructed the City Attorney to draft an ordinance that would increase the fine for barking dogs that cause a disturbance. The current fine is $25, and the proposal is to leave the fine at $25 for a first offense, with higher fines for each subsequent offense.
The council proposed the increased fines after meeting with a resident who complained about a neighbor’s dogs’ incessant barking.
The revised ordinance will likely be prepared for consideration at the council’s March 20th meeting.
In other business Tuesday, the Humboldt City Council spent more time discussing repairs to the Auditorium roof. Council members decided to retake bids for a sloped, rubberized, roof. The city had received three previous bids to repair the Auditorium roof, with one of those for a rubber roof.
The council also agreed Tuesday to take bids for mowing the cemetery. Bids will likely be opened in April, after publication in the Humboldt Standard.
And Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer School Busses will no longer be going north on Long Branch Street in Humboldt. Concern was expressed about busses using Long Branch, as a day care center is located on the corner where busses had been turning from Central onto Long Branch. Busses will now turn north on Lincoln rather than Long Branch.
