(KTNC)--Mound City’s 2014 tax levy will be higher than last year, but lower than the tax rate ceiling. The Board of Aldermen approved the levy during its regular monthly meeting last week.
The tax rate ceiling, approved by the State Auditor, is just under $1.91 per $100 of assessed valuation. That rate includes the 30-cent street light levy voters approved in April.
After discussion and a review of projected revenue, expenses and cash balances for the street light fund, aldermen approved a motion to lower the street light levy to 28-cents.
That brings the 2014 tax levy to just under $1.89 per $100 of assessed valuation. Last year’s total levy was $1.84.
No one from the public was present for the public hearing on the tax levy.
Mound City Aldermen approved one other ordinance last week. That is accepting a contract with McFadden Construction to patch areas along Mill Street and part of Grand Avenue.
McFadden bid $74,711 for the patching, and a little more than $5,000 to fill cracks in the street. Aldermen accepted the bid up to $75,000, which is the amount budgeted for the project. City employees will work on patching on B Street and Spring Street.
