(KTNC)--Missouri residents are being asked to weigh in on a list of proposed transportation projects that would be funded should an added sales tax be approved in August.
The Missouri Department of Transportation is holding a series of open houses across the state to give people a chance to see and comment on the proposal. Three of the open houses will take place this week in MoDOT’s northwest region.
The first is (today/Tuesday), from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Parks and Recreation Community Center, at 1407 Country Club Road in Maryville.
Another open house will be held Wednesday, also from 4:00 till 7:00 p.m., at the Green Acres Building, at 3500 North Village Drive, in St. Joseph.
The third open house will be held from 4:00 till 6:00 p.m. Thursday, at the Community Center, located at 105 North 25th Street in Bethany.
There are 811 proposed projects on a list that MoDOT released last week. The biggest part of the list focuses on roads and bridges, and several projects also include public transportation, airports, river ports, hiking and biking trails, and major road projects such as rebuilding Interstate 70.
The list is a provision of Constitutional Amendment 7, a ballot measure, which Missouri voters will decide in a public vote on August 5. The amendment would raise Missouri’s sales tax by three-quarters of a cent for ten years to fund transportation projects.
No formal presentations will be made during the open houses.
The entire meeting schedule, a list of the transportation improvement list, and a comment form are available online at www.modot.org/movingforward.
