(KAIR)--A three-vehicle accident near the intersection of 45 Highway and River Road in Platte County, Missouri Tuesday morning resulted in the death of a Kansas City woman and sent two more to the hospital--including an Atchison man.
According to a press release from the Platte County Sheriff’s office, preliminary information indicates that 38-year-old Adam Shaw of Springfield, MO was driving his semi truck northbound on 45 Highway when his vehicle crossed over the center lane into southbound traffic, striking a pickup truck driven by 52-year-old Rodney Griffin of Atchison, and a mini-van driven by 49-year-old Catherine Nienaber of Kansas City.
Nienaber was pronounced dead at the scene and her 7-year-old son was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Griffin was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Shaw received minor injuries and was taken into custody as a result of the accident, since alcohol was believed to be a contributing factor in causing the crash.
Shaw is facing a charge of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of assault. He is currently being held at the Platte County Detention Center on a $250,000 cash only bond.
