(KTNC) - Falls City’s downtown area is one step closer to being listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Main Street and Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Eric Barr informed the Falls City Council Monday night that the Nebraska State Historic Preservation Commission approved the city’s application to have the area listed on the National Register last Friday.
The application will now be sent to the Keeper of the National Register at the National Park Service in Washington, D.C., for final consideration.
Barr said they should know whether the city’s application is approved by December. The area that would be included in the Historic District is essentially along Stone Street from 15th to 19th, and including Prichard Auditorium and the former City Hall Building.
Barr presented the Chamber of Commerce and Main Street 2nd and 3rd quarter report to the Council Monday night.
Among the highlights in the past two months, Barr said 18 participants have been selected to be part of the new Towle-Vandeberg Youth Ambassadors program. They meet monthly and are beginning to plan projects.
Barr said they are planning for the next phase of the Main Street project. A Halloween event is planned for October 31, the Christmas Window Opening will be held November 29, and the Annual Banquet is tentatively scheduled for January 15.
Barr said the organization will present its funding request for 2014 in October or November.
