(KTNC) - Downtown Falls City property owners are encouraged to attend a public meeting regarding the downtown area’s nomination as a Historic District. Main Street Falls City will host the meeting in the conference room at the Main Street office at 1705 Stone Street, at noon Tuesday, August 6th.
The local meeting is in advance of a September hearing on the nomination in Lincoln.
The Nebraska Preservation Board will consider the Falls City Commercial Historic District nomination at its quarterly meeting on September 13th.
Main Street Director Eric Barr says Tuesday’s meeting will give property owners and the public a chance to ask questions about the nomination prior to the state board’s meeting in September.
Barr says the listing is an honorary recognition of the district’s historic significance and there will be no restrictions or obligations on any property owner as a result of the listing. He says the listing would make buildings eligible for federal and state tax incentives.
The district will not be listed if 51-percent of property owners in the boundary object.
A copy of the nomination is on file for public viewing, by request, at the Main Street office until the September 13th meeting.
