(KTNC) - Holt County Commissioners are looking for ways to cut energy costs at its Road and Bridge Department barns. The county has three facilities, at Maitland, Mound City, and Oregon.
County Clerk Kathy Kunkel says they’ve noticed considerably higher energy costs. With approximately 46-percent of the year complete, expenditures for utilities – which include water and trash – are at nearly 74-and-a-half percent of the anticipated budget.
Kunkel says they noticed a spike in usage earlier this year at the Mound City barn and have noticed consistently higher usage at the Oregon barn. (play audio :38 “need it again.”)
The Maitland barn is a minimum maintenance facility and is of less concern than the other two facilities. Holt County purchased the Oregon barn last year from the Missouri Department of Transportation. The commission has asked KCP-and-L to do an energy audit at its Road and Bridge barns to help identify areas where the county could save on energy costs.
