(KTNC) - Repairs are underway on the electrical system at the Mound City, City Hall, in an attempt to correct what’s described as a dangerous situation with the wiring in the building.
Mayor Chris Krueger told Aldermen this past week that he contacted John Dougherty with Pinnacle Electric to check into the situation after he was not able to reset a tripped breaker. Krueger said Dougherty found several fire and safety hazards, some that needed to be fixed immediately.
The Mayor said he approved an order for up to $10,000 for emergency electrical repairs, as allowed under city code.
Some of the concerns the electrician identified include: a panel box in a closet adjacent to a mop sink, no main ground or water pipe ground, no ground in the basement sub-panel, open junction boxes, ceiling fans and light fixtures that are improperly supported, and improper wiring to the emergency siren.
Krueger said Dougherty has completed some of the work, including moving the panel box out of the janitor’s closet and replacing an exterior light and wiring that shorted out.
Dougherty was to continue working on the list until he incurs $10,000 in expenses. Aldermen will then determine what course of action to take after that.
