(KTNC) - A partnership between Peru State College, the Food Bank of Lincoln, and Catholic Social Services of Southeast Nebraska aims to help alleviate food insecurity and childhood hunger in Nemaha County, Nebraska.
The initiative – Feeding 44 – will create a mobile food distribution center at Peru State to serve people in underserved, rural, parts of Nemaha County.
Peru State College sophomore Rachel Henry started the initiative with a $500 grant from the Sodexo Foundation. She says food insecurity is a problem in Nemaha County. (play audio :36)
Feeding 44 will host its first distribution from noon to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10th, in the Al Wheeler Activity Center on the Peru State campus. Henry says anyone interested in helping with the distribution can come to the AWAC at about 11:00 a.m. that day. (play audio :28)
Distributions will continue the second Friday of every month.
Feeding 44 is also sponsoring a food drive this week, in conjunction with Peru State’s Institute for Community Engagement. Barrels are located in the Student Center and the Al Wheeler Activity Center where people can drop off canned goods and non-perishable items that will be donated to the Food Bank of Lincoln.
