(KTNC) - A high-speed chase Friday evening reached speeds in excess of 100 miles-per-hour on gravel roads in Richardson and Brown Counties.
Richardson County Sheriff Randy Houser says the pursuit started when a deputy saw a 2012 Kia Optima heading south at a high rate of speed near the intersection of 7th and Harlan Street in Falls City. (play audio :21)
The high-speed pursuit continued on gravel roads in Richardson County, ending when the two people in the Kia abandoned the vehicle at a farmhouse near Barada. (play audio :21)
Sheriff Houser says the passenger was interviewed by authorities and released Saturday. Houser says he was cooperative and is not a suspect in the case.
Sheriff Houser says the driver found shelter Friday night and was taken to the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn Saturday for treatment of injuries sustained when he fell as he fled from authorities. Houser says they will likely seek a warrant for the arrest of the driver.
The name of the driver was not immediately released, as the investigation continues.
Sheriff Houser says the Kia was reported stolen from Falls City after the pursuit. He says front end of the Kia was damaged when it went airborne over railroad tracks during the chase.
