(KTNC) - Mound City officials are exploring the possibility of instituting a Lodging Tax.
During last week’s City Council meeting, Mayor Chris Krueger told Aldermen that he and Robert Gibson plan to meet with State Representative Mike Thomson about drafting legislation to allow the city to enact such a tax. Missouri law requires communities such as Mound City to get state approval before enacting a lodging tax – which is generally used for tourism purposes.
The City of Rock Port has a lodging tax, which generates approximately $36,000 annually.
Krueger also told the council he’s interested in annexing property west of the I-29 interchange, and said he’d contact people in that area to gauge interest in a voluntary annexation.
