(KTNC) - A human trafficking activist and a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate are scheduled to speak as part of Peru State College’s Distinguished Speaker Series.
The first presentation for the 2012-13 series is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 22. Cambodia native Somaly Mam will give a presentation titled, “The Lost Road to Innocence.”
Mam was born into poverty and was sold into sexual slavery by a man who posed as her grandfather. In 1996, she established a Cambodian non-governmental organization that helps victims of human trafficking. She is the author of the book “The Road of Lost Innocence: The True Story of a Cambodian Heroine.”
The second presentation in the Distinguished Speaker Series is scheduled for Monday, February 25.
Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Dr. Shirin Ebadi will speak at the College Theatre. Dr. Ebadi is the first Iranian and the first Muslim woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
Both presentations will be held in the Peru State College Theatre, and are free and open to the public.
