The new law enforcement agreement between Pawnee City and Pawnee County has finally been approved. After lengthy negotiations between the city and county, the Pawnee City Council approved the agreement Monday night.
The agreement is for one year, at a cost of $53,637 – a one-and-a-half percent increase over the previous contract. County commissioners had previously approved the contract.
Commissioners originally proposed a three-year contract with a six-percent increase each year. The city had originally proposed a three-percent increase for each year of a three-year contract before turning down that offer from the county and settling on the one-year agreement.
While the City Council approved the law enforcement agreement, they did not approve a payment to Mid-America Road Builders for the chip-and-seal project on city streets.
The bill for $50,902 is nearly $1200 more than the city had originally agreed to pay for the work, and city council members were not happy with the quality of the work done on streets around the Courthouse.
The council also did not approve paying a bill for the new swimming pool chair lift, which was recently delivered. A crack was discovered in the base of the lift when it was removed from its packaging, and the city has asked the manufacturer to repair the lift before making payment.
In other business, the Pawnee City Council approved the Handi-Bus agreement with the county for $2500, the same amount as last year.
And Pawnee City received word that the Department of Environmental Quality has approved the city’s Wellhead Protection plan.
