(KAIR) -- The Governing Body of the City of Effingham has declared a "Water Supply Warning” for their community.
In a notice that’s planned to be delivered to customers, All city water customers are urged to voluntarily restrict all non-essential water use effective Wednesday, and continuing until further notice.
Non-essential water use includes, but is not limited to, outdoor watering of gardens, lawns, trees, shrubs, plants, parks, playing fields and other recreational areas; filling of private swimming pools, washing of motor vehicles, boats and trailers, except at a commercial car wash facility, and washing the exterior of any building or structure.
The council unanimously voted to enact the procedure in a special meeting Monday night.
The warning was issued due to prolonged heat and drought conditions that have resulted in falling water levels in the city's water supply wells.
The council says if everyone does their part to conserve water during this trying time, they hope to avoid the necessity of implementing stricter, mandatory water use restrictions.
Any further questions on the notice are to be directed to the city office at 833-4471 between eight and three, Monday through Friday.
