A 21-year-old Atchison man is in custody on multiple charges stemming from a burglary into a rural Atchison residence Sunday evening.
According to Atchison County Undersheriff Larry Myer, Ryan Brownfield was taken into custody after deputies responded to a call at 10519 U.S. 59 highway.
Myer says Brownfield was kicked out of the residence by the renter of the property recently and says the renter discovered Brownfield at the house when he came home Sunday.
At that point, Brownfield fled the house.
They allege Brownfield broke in the back door, ate food and trashed the house before being discovered by the renter.
Authorities later discovered Brownfield nearby in trees.
Myer says Brownfield allegedly showed resistance upon his arrest.
He was booked on the felony charges of burglary, criminal damage and obstruction, as well as misdemeanor theft and criminal trespass.
Brownfield remains in Atchison County Jail awaiting bond and formal charges.
