(KAIR)--One arrest is made in connection with a social media threat aimed at a local area school.

KQ2-TV reports one person is in custody following the recent Facebook posting that included a picture of the city's Lafayette High School.

The Facebook page used to make the threat was named “Ain't Clownin' Around,” an apparent reference to the ongoing fear of clowns making it's way across the nation.

The TV station reports that police have not yet released any details due to what's being called “an extensive investigation.”

The threat, deemed to be uncredible, was an apparent copycat of a similar threat made earlier in September.

That happened in LaGrange, Georgia, where The New York Times reports warrants were issued for four people blamed for a similar threat. Similar threats have also been reported in other states, including Philadelphia

Clown sightings have become prevalent in recent months across the nation, but no actual threatening clowns have been located despite law enforcement investigations.

Sociologists quoted in national news reports blame the bulk of the sightings as mass hysteria that has grown substantially through the use of social media.

Using the stock photo makes it appear that Sugar Pants the Clown is the person arrested. I understand what it means to use a stock photo, but many readers may be mislead.
